In compliance with the anti-epidemic policy of the nation and for the sake of the wellbeing of all University staff, faculty and students amidst the coronavirus outbreak, the University has had to delay the beginning of the semester by two weeks. As a result of the substantial change to the academic calendar, the official start date of the new semester will now be 02 March. Needless to say, this will cause most of you great inconvenience, but, at the same time, I am sure that, out of the concern for the health and peace of mind of everybody, you will understand and tolerate every step we are taking. Given the swiftness and intensity of the development of the epidemic, the University will be constantly adjusting its policies and measures according to orders given by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), which will, in turn, all be posted on the University’s official website. For the most up-to-date information and announcements, please refer to the section entitled COVID-19 Policy and Measures at https://www.pccu.edu.tw/fever/fever.html. Now, let us take a look at some details.
Anti-epidemic Guidelines introduced by the Hygiene Department of the Student Affairs Office are as follows:
Promotion of hygiene education in these respects: proper hand-washing, respiratory tract hygiene, cough etiquette, proper disposal of oro-nasal secretions, as well as general personal hygiene. In addition, unnecessary exposure in public areas that are overcrowded or places with poor air circulation is to be avoided at all cost.
Constant and regular disinfection of surfaces and equipments: objects that are at a high risk of contamination due to frequent human contact, such as doorknobs, desk surfaces and light switches, are all to be cleaned and/or disinfected with a cleaning solution (such as household laundry bleach) diluted by a dilution ratio of 1:100.
The Hygiene Department will stay on high alert for announcements by the CECC, making constant adjustments to these guidelines as necessary, which are, in turn, to be publicized in the form of general university announcements.
Administration of health management for individuals at high risk of infection of the disease, and assisting government authorities with the investigation of the travel history and contact history of any confirmed case.
The office of the Hygiene Department will now only be open to individuals seeking medical attention and those showing up on duty, who are to have a surgical mask on at all times during their visit. In addition, this Department will inquire all outpatients about their occupations, travel histories, contact histories and community gathering histories.
All University personnel are advised to stay home if they find themselves ill, keeping contact with other people at a minimum. In the event that anyone finds themselves coming down with a fever (fever meaning a body temperature of 38°C or higher) or any respiratory symptoms, they are to get in touch with the relevant health authorities by calling 1922 and seek immediate medical attention with a surgical mask on. They are also to have their travel history and contact history available for medical staff.
You are advised to check your temperature before you leave home every morning. Always keep personal hygiene and cough etiquette in mind. Try to arrive early as you will need extra time for a temperature check and a stamp on your wrist if you pass the check. Anyone with a fever (fever meaning a forehead temperature higher than 37.5°C or an ear temperature higher than 38°C) is expected to report their condition truthfully to the course instructor or the Hygiene Department.
If you notice a fever on you or any discomfort in your respiratory tract, please stay at home and see if medical attention is needed.
Any discomfort occurring during a class session is to be reported to the instructor right away.
Any and all health conditions are to be reported to a faculty member, a fellow student or a staff member at the first opportunity, and at the same time, to your immediate family and/or closest circle of friends.
All undergraduate classes are to appoint a student on duty, who is to be in charge of the cleaning and disinfecting of the classroom prior to any classroom session for the day.
For the sake of flexible response to the volatile health situation, changes and adjustments may have to be made to many courses over the semester, and this will require your understanding and cooperation.
For all inquiries about or comments on the University’s anti-epidemic policy, please get in touch with the Hygiene Department at 02-28610511 and extension 12304. There will be a dedicated staff member ready to address any concern you may have. For any COVID-related emergencies, please call the Campus Security Office at 02-28616630. For any inquiries about student registration, course adds and drops and the University’s study and learning policy, please refer to the dedicated COVID webpage at https://www.pccu.edu.tw/fever/fever.html. Last but not least, please do stay calm and alert without panicking too much. Together we will get through this difficult period. Have a joyful and prosperous Year of the Rat!
